How old is my ACDelco car battery?

Type the date code from the ACDelco label to see when it was built.

Reading a ACDelco serial number

GM’s warranty guide reads the code as a series letter, a two-digit month, the last digit of the year, and a plant letter. P097N means September 2017.

The year is one digit, so the same code fits two dates ten years apart. The checker shows both and marks the newer one as more likely.

About ACDelco

  • GM formed AC-Delco in 1974 by merging its AC Spark Plug and United Delco parts divisions.
  • ACDelco’s Advantage line is a lower-priced battery that also fits many Ford, Honda, Nissan, Chrysler and other non-GM cars. In 2015 it came with an 18-month free replacement warranty.

Worked example: P097N fits September 2007 or September 2017. The page above explains how to tell which.
