How old is my Amana furnace or AC?
Type the serial number from the Amana label to see when it was built. Amana units are built by Goodman, so the serials follow that company's format.
Example
- 07Year: 07 = 2007
- 02Month: 02 = February
Built February 2007
19 years, 8 months old
In replacement window. Inside the usual 15 to 25 year lifespan, so replacement could come any time. Worth budgeting for it.
How this was read
- The first two digits, 07, are the year: 2007.
- The next two digits, 02, are the month: February.
- The last six digits are a running number.
Format: Goodman year and month. Sources: CPSC 2017 Goodman furnace recall (serials starting 1609 to 1612), CPSC 2013 Amana packaged unit recall (serials starting 1206 to 1210), CPSC 2014 Goodman and Amana PTAC recall, Building Intelligence Center: Goodman.
Reading a Amana serial number
Goodman bought Amana in 1997 and sold the appliance side to Maytag in 2001, keeping heating and cooling. The serial starts with the year and the month.
CPSC recall notices for Amana units list serials that start with the year and month, such as 1206 for June 2012.
