How old is my Daikin furnace or AC?
Type the serial number from the Daikin label to see when it was built. Daikin units are built by Daikin Comfort Technologies (formerly Goodman), for ducted units, so the serials follow that company's format.
Example
- 16Year: 16 = 2016
- 10Month: 10 = October
Built October 2016
10 years old
Plenty of life left. Well inside the usual 15 to 25 year lifespan.
How this was read
- The first two digits, 16, are the year: 2016.
- The next two digits, 10, are the month: October.
- The last six digits are a running number.
Format: Goodman year and month. Sources: CPSC 2017 Goodman furnace recall (serials starting 1609 to 1612), CPSC 2013 Amana packaged unit recall (serials starting 1206 to 1210), CPSC 2014 Goodman and Amana PTAC recall, Building Intelligence Center: Goodman.
Reading a Daikin serial number
Daikin furnaces and ducted systems are built by Goodman and use its format: year, then month.
Daikin ductless mini-splits built in Japan or Thailand use other codes that the checker does not read. Many of their labels print the manufacture date.

Goodman year and month
Used about 1975 to today. Example: 1609123456
Goodman, Amana and Daikin ducted units have a 10-digit serial. The first two digits are the year and the next two are the month. 1609 means September 2016.
Worked example: 1610123456 was built October 2016, so it is 10 years old as of October 2026.

Daikin recalls
Recalls from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that name Daikin. Whether a unit is included depends on its model and build date; the checker above flags matches.
| Year | Recall | Hazard |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Daikin FIT, Amana S-series and Goodman SD heat pumps | After a power cut the unit can heat the house even when set to cool. |
| 2024 | Amana, Daikin and Goodman packaged units | Wrong electrical ratings on the plate can lead to wrong wiring and a fire. |
| 2018 | Goodman, Amana and Daikin modular blowers | Wrong electrical info on the label can lead to undersized wiring and a fire. |
| 2017 | Goodman, Amana and Daikin 80% gas furnaces | The blower motor is not grounded, which can shock someone working on it. |
