How old is my Ducane furnace or AC?
Type the serial number from the Ducane label to see when it was built. Ducane units are built by Allied Air, a Lennox company, so the serials follow that company's format.
Example
- 46Plant code: 46
- 01Year: 01 = 2001
- JMonth: J = September
Built September 2001
25 years, 1 month old
Past typical life. Past the usual 15 to 25 year lifespan. Watch for rising gas bills, uneven heat, a yellow or flickering burner flame, rust or soot, and a carbon monoxide alarm.
How this was read
- The first two digits, 46, are the plant code.
- The next two digits, 01, are the year: 2001.
- The letter J is the month: September. A is January and the letter I is skipped.

Reading a Ducane serial number
Ducane uses the Lennox layout: plant, year, then a month letter with I skipped.
Some older Ducane serials are 10 digits with the year and week at the end.

Ducane recalls
Recalls from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that name Ducane. Whether a unit is included depends on its model and build date; the checker above flags matches.

|---|---|---|
| 1998 | Plastic HTPV vent pipes on gas furnaces | Plastic vent pipes can crack or separate and leak carbon monoxide. |
| 1996 | Ducane-built oil furnaces sold under many brands | The heat exchanger can crack. |
