How old is my Evcon furnace or AC?
Type the serial number from the Evcon label to see when it was built. Evcon units are built by York (Johnson Controls until 2025, now Bosch), so the serials follow that company's format.
Example
- 99Year: 99 = 1999
- 06Month: 06 = June
Built June 1999
27 years, 4 months old
Past typical life. Past the usual 15 to 25 year lifespan. Watch for rising gas bills, uneven heat, a yellow or flickering burner flame, rust or soot, and a carbon monoxide alarm.
How this was read
- The first two digits, 99, are the year: 1999. From 1992 Coleman put the year first.
- The next two digits, 06, are the month: June.
Format: Coleman and Evcon all-digit serial. Sources: HVAC Part Store: reading a Coleman serial number, McGarry and Madsen: Coleman and Coleman Evcon serial numbers, Building Intelligence Center: Evcon.
Reading a Evcon serial number
Coleman Evcon serials from the 1990s are all digits and start with the year then the month. 9906 means June 1999.
About Evcon
- Evcon is the name used after Coleman Corp. of Wichita spun off its heating and cooling line.
- York bought the Coleman Evcon line in the mid-1990s and stopped using “Evcon” on Coleman units in 2000.
- Evcon was still listed as a brand when Bosch bought the business from Johnson Controls in 2025.

Worked example: W1G7123456 was built July 2017, so it is 9 years, 3 months old as of October 2026.
