How old is my Gibson appliance?

Type the serial number from the Gibson label to see when it was built. Gibson units are built by Electrolux, so the serials follow that company's format.

Reading a Gibson serial number

Gibson is an Electrolux brand. Its serials use the Frigidaire code: year digit third, then the week.

About Gibson

  • Hupp Corporation bought the Gibson Refrigerator Company in April 1956.
  • Hupp became part of White Consolidated Industries in 1967, which brought Gibson to Electrolux in 1986.
  • Gibson refrigerators came from Greenville, Michigan. Electrolux closed the Greenville refrigerator plant in early 2006 and moved production to Juárez, Mexico.

Electrolux plant, product, year digit and week

Used 1986 to today. Example: 3F91400621

The first character is the plant and the second letter is the product type. The third character is the last digit of the year, and the fourth and fifth are the week. The decade is not in the serial, so one code fits a year in each decade.

Worked example: LA81503430 fits Week 15 of 1988 (around April) or Week 15 of 1998 (around April) or Week 15 of 2008 (around April) or Week 15 of 2018 (around April). The page above explains how to tell which.

The full lookup tables are on the Electrolux page, since Gibson uses the same code.
